Bareilly, UP: Jagdish Patani, retired deputy SP and father of Bollywood actress Disha Patani was allegedly cheated of Rs 25 lakh by a group of five individuals who promised him a high-ranking position in a government commission. A case has been filed on Friday evening at Bareilly police station.

The accused, including Shivendra Pratap Singh, Diwakar Garg, Acharya Jayaprakash from Juna Akhara, Preeti Garg and one unidentified person have been booked for cheating, criminal intimidation and extortion, according to the reports.

As per the complaint filed by Jagdish Patani, Shivendra Pratap Singh whom he knew personally, they introduced him to Diwakar Garg and Acharya Jayaprakash. The accused claimed to have strong political connections and assured Patani of securing a prestigious post in a government commission, such as chairman or vice-chairman.

They gained Patani’s trust and took Rs 25 lakh from him, Rs 5 lakh in cash and Rs 20 lakh through transfers to three different bank accounts.

However, when no progress was made over three months, the accused promised to return the money with interest. But when Jagdish Patani demanded his money back, they began issuing threats and behaving aggressively.

The police said that the conmen even introduced an accomplice as an “officer on special duty” named Himanshu to reinforce their false claims of political connections.

Jagdish Patani lodged a complaint with the police suspecting a larger fraud that further led to the registration of an FIR at Bareilly Kotwali police station. D K Sharma, in charge of Kotwali police station, reportedly said that efforts are underway to arrest the accused and take strict action.

Disha Patani, Jagdish’s daughter is a well-known Bollywood actress who has appeared in films like M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, Baaghi 2, Malang, Kanguva and many more. She often posts pictures with her family. Her mother is working as a health inspector.  Khushboo Patani, her elder sister is a lieutenant in the Indian Army.
