Speculation had intensified ever since fans spotted a shot of Vijay in a cricket stadium in the most-anticipated ‘GOAT’ film. With the film all set for a worldwide release on September 5, rumors have been swirling on social media about a possible cameo by MS Dhoni in the movie.

MS Dhoni and Thalapathy Vijay are two of the most beloved icons in Tamil Nadu. Is the union of ‘Thala’s’ really happening? Putting an end to all rumors, Director Venkat Prabhu has clarified that Dhoni will not appear in the movie.

However, the filmmaker said that the idea was considered initially. Though the Dhoni cameo did not materialize in the film, it includes a cricket match sequence between the Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.

And these inclusions are expected to thrill both cricketing as well as cinema fans by merging two of Tamil Nadu’s greatest passions.

All these rumors began when the director of the film dropped a cryptic remark during an interview.

“We are featuring a CSK match in a scene in the GOAT movie- you know who will make an appearance on the screen,” he had said. Many believed that it would be Chennai Super Kings captain, MS Dhoni.

However, with just hours left for the release, one of the surprises the filmmaker had in the film is out. Former Indian International cricketer and Chennai Super Kings player Subramanian Badrinath has confirmed that he has played a role in the much-awaited film. Taking it to the microblogging site, X, the cricketer wrote, “Have done my bit for #GOAT my first time being part of a movie, very excited …awaiting reviews and feedback”.

Apart from reports of the film being a sci-fi and featuring Vijay in dual roles, GOAT is also a full-scale reunion of talents.

Sneha is teaming up with Vijay after 22 years since Vaseegara, while music composer Yuvan Shankar Raja is working with Vijay after Pudhiya Geethai (2003).
