Sometimes, the drama in the theatre is as entertaining as the film itself! Kochi cinephiles experienced an unexpected plot twist on Friday when Cinepolis Centre Square Mall accidentally skipped the first half of Pushpa 2: The Rule, jumping straight to the climax. The theatre’s blunder left audiences puzzled, especially in an era where non-linear narratives are commonplace.
The error came to light during the “interval,” when end credits rolled instead of a mid-film breather. Some viewers initially thought this was an experimental storytelling approach before realising they’d been watching the second half of the film all along. Discontent simmered as moviegoers demanded refunds, with a few insisting on a proper screening of the missed first half.
In response, Cinepolis screened the opening segment at 9 pm for an audience of ten loyal (or curious) viewers and promised refunds. One attendee quipped, “With so many films experimenting with narrative styles, it was hard to tell if Pushpa 2 was deliberately confusing or just incomplete.”
This hiccup aside, Pushpa 2: The Rule has been smashing box office records. Directed by Sukumar, the sequel has already grossed ₹621 crore globally in just three days. The film continues the saga of Pushpa Raj, played by Allu Arjun, and his red sanders empire, setting the stage for the next chapter, Pushpa 3: The Rampage.
