Kavita Chaudhary, Known For IPS Character In ‘Udaan’, Dies At 67

Kavita Chaudhary, star of the popular Doordarshan serial Udaan and famous for her role as Lalita-ji in iconic Surf advertisements of the 90’s, passed away due to cardiac arrest. The actress was admitted to the hospital a few days ago.

The veteran actress’s death was confirmed by her nephew, reports India Express. Kavita, who was 67 died on Thursday night at Parvati Devi hospital in Amritsar. “She passed away following cardiac arrest last night around 8.30 pm in Amritsar at the hospital. She was admitted to the hospital a few days ago due to low blood pressure. Her condition became critical later,” Ajay Sayal, her nephew said to PTI.

Kavita Chaudhary was known for her role in Udaan as IPS officer Kalyani Singh, a show about women empowerment that was telecasted on Doordarshan between 1989 and 1991. Besides starring, she wrote and directed serial, which was inspired by the life of her elder sister and police officer Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya, says NDTV.

The show inspired women to pursue careers in public services and it was re-aired in the Doordarshan during the pandemic. Later she also produced Doordarshan shows Your Honour and IPS Diaries.

As per Indian Today, Kavita Chaudhary’s friend Suchitra Verma revealed that the actress was undergoing chemotherapy when they met last time as she was diagnosed with cancer.

Several actors extended their condolences upon Chaudhary’s passing. Actor Amit Behl wrote on X, “RIP Kavita Chaudhary,is baar aapne lambi udaan bhar li,Naman”.

Actor Anang Desai said while speaking to The Indian Express that the actress was diagnosed with cancer few years ago. “we have met after that also, but she wanted to keep it private so we never spoke about it. She was originally from Amritsar and died there. I spoke to her about fifteen days ago when she was in Mumbai, she was not keeping too well. Kavita’s nephew informed me about her death this morning,” she said.

Kavita Chaudhary is survived by her daughter Sayal and her niece.
