Mammootty’s Kalamkaval Pushes Release To 2026?

The release of Mammootty’s highly anticipated crime thriller Kalamkaval has officially been postponed. The film, which was earlier scheduled to hit theatres on November 27, will now arrive later than planned, with the makers confirming that a new date will be announced soon.

Mammootty Kampany issued a statement on Thursday across its social media platforms, assuring fans that the team is committed to delivering the film at the right moment.

The film was initially slated for a November 27, 2025, theatrical release. However, following the postponement announced this week, industry sources indicate that the team is now eyeing a January 2026 release window. In contrast, no new date has been officially confirmed.

Although the statement did not reveal the reason behind the postponement, industry chatter suggests ongoing negotiations involving OTT and satellite rights may have contributed to the shift. However, there is no official confirmation on these reports.

The delay comes shortly after the release of the film’s official trailer, which has been widely appreciated for its slow-burning intensity.

The narrative unfolds in Kottayikonam on the Kerala–Tamil Nadu border, where a violent clash between two youngsters escalates into a full communal disturbance. The Kerala Police Special Investigation Team steps in, only to uncover shocking truths that go far beyond what they initially imagined. The documentary-style tone, brooding visuals, and neo-noir atmosphere have helped the trailer gain strong traction online.

Kalamkaval marks the directorial debut of Jithin K. Jose, who has also co-written the screenplay with Jishnu Sreekumar. The film brings together a strong ensemble led by Mammootty and Vinayakan, along with Meera Jasmine, Gibin Gopinath, Gayatri Arun, Rajisha Vijayan, Aravind S. K, Shruti Ramachandran, Azees Nedumangad, and Biju Pappan, who appears as SP Thomas.

Behind the camera, the film is shaped by cinematographer Faisal Ali. The music is composed by Mujeeb Majeed, while Praveen Prabhakar handles the editing. Kalamkaval completed its shoot in November 2024 and has been certified UA 16+ by the CBFC. The project also stands out as the seventh production venture from Mammootty Kampany.
