Achayan’Z Film House Inc., a movie distribution house in North America, has publicly accused Truth Global Films of breach of contract and financial “bad faith” regarding the distribution of high-profile Malayalam projects starring the legendary veteran, Mammootty. However, in an exclusive communication with Timeline, an official from the Truth Global Films has hit back, dismissing the claims as a defamatory campaign born out of a misunderstanding of the inherent risks of the cinematic “lottery.”

The dispute primarily concerns the distribution rights for the Mammootty-starrer action-thriller Bazooka. What began as a standard business transaction has rapidly devolved into a public feud involving leaked messages, claims of “mediator” roles for superstars, and the looming threat of high-stakes defamation litigation.

According to a formal press statement issued by Achayan’Z Film House on March 13, 2026, the distributor entered into an agreement with Truth Global Films, represented by Samad Truth and Rebin Areef, to secure the North American rights for Bazooka. The deal was structured on a Minimum Guarantee (MG) basis—a common industry practice where a distributor pays a substantial upfront fee to the producers, effectively betting on the film’s commercial success.

Achayan’Z claims that Bazooka performed poorly at the North American box office, resulting in what they describe as a “huge financial loss.” Crucially, the distributor alleges that a contingency plan was part of the original negotiation: if Bazooka failed to deliver, the losses would be offset by granting Achayan’Z the distribution rights for Mammootty’s future project, Kalamkaval.

“Following the loss, discussions were held where they assured us that the losses would be adjusted through Kalamkaval,” the Achayan’Z statement read. However, when the time came for the second film’s release, Truth Global allegedly informed them, according to Achayan’Z, they no longer held those rights.

The controversy reached a boiling point when private message logs were leaked. In one exchange, an Achayan’Z official confronted Samad Truth, stating: “I just spoke to Jom now, and he said you don’t have rights for Kalamkaval… Now, it’s your only sole decision that giving us Patriot for Distribution or Refund 50% of Bazooka loss.”

Samad Truth’s alleged response — claiming he was merely a “mediator” for Mammootty (affectionately known as ‘Ikka’) — has also created fuzz on social media, in which the theories were built around the implication that financial proceeds were collected directly by the actor, leaving the distributor with no legal recourse against the intermediary.

Truth Global Films’s version

Speaking to Timeline, an official from Truth Global Films offered a scathing counter-narrative, categorising the allegations as a baseless attempt to tarnish their reputation. The firm maintains that the logic of the film business is being intentionally distorted by Achayan’Z to cover their own commercial failings.

“There is nothing of significance in these allegations; they are simply an attempt to defame us,” the Truth Global official stated. “The logic behind this business is simple: it is a retail model. Much like buying a product from one place to sell at another, these individuals are simply those who purchased a product from us to resell elsewhere.”

The official clarified that they had acquired the rights for Bazooka in the GCC and subsequently resold the North American rights to Achayan’Z. They argue that once a price is quoted and a legal agreement is signed, the risk transfers to the buyer.

Truth Global Films’s reaction to a query from Timeline

The official further pointed out that while Truth Global also suffered losses on the film, their “wide release and effective marketing” mitigated the damage. In contrast, they claimed Achayan’Z released the film in only three or four theatres. “Naturally, they incurred losses. Now, they are asking for a refund or for the next movie’s rights for free. Where is the logic in that?”

Truth Global’s defence hinges on the inherent unpredictability of the film industry. The firm argues that no one can guarantee a return on investment in cinema, comparing the distribution of a film to “buying a lottery ticket.”

“Whether a film becomes a commercial success depends entirely on luck—both ours and that of the people working behind the scenes,” the official remarked. Regarding the “mediator” claim that has caused such a stir, Truth Global confirmed that in the specific case of Bazooka, they acted as intermediaries to facilitate the deal for Mammootty.

“In this particular transaction, we took no profit or commission; the income was directed solely to Mammookka. Despite this, they are demanding refunds. When we refused, they turned to personal abuse.”

Truth Global official claims to possess screenshots of this “abuse,” alleging that Achayan’Z has selectively leaked only one message that supports their mediator narrative while hiding the broader, more aggressive context of the conversation.

Achayan’Z Film House expressed “deep regret” over the situation, noting that they have been met with silence for over a year. They argue that Truth Global has ignored “widely accepted” industry practices where losses are typically resolved through financial settlements or future opportunities.

Truth Global, however, views this “standard practice” argument as a one-way street. “They are coming after us because they lost lakhs. We have lost crores in this same business,” the official said, citing a previous instance where the firm lost over 18 crores on a “massive flop” without seeking refunds from producers.

“Sadly, this is typical ‘Malayali’ behaviour—attacking anyone who manages to better themselves in life,” the Truth Global representative added, framing the dispute as a personal vendetta rather than a legal grievance.

The fallout has now moved toward the courtroom. A communication from Truth Global’s official Instagram handle confirmed that they are no longer engaging with Achayan’Z directly to avoid giving “baseless claims” further visibility.

“We have been operating successfully for over six years in this industry and remain committed to our work,” the statement read. “Please be advised that we are currently in the process of filing a defamation case, supported by all relevant communications and agreements as proof.”

While Mammootty has not been legally named in any claims, the public nature of the dispute—and the repeated mention of his name in the context of financial transactions—places a rare spotlight on the business dealings of one of India’s most respected actors. Timeline contacted Mammootty’s own production company Mammootty Kampany for their version on the events and they are yet to respond to our query.
