"My Comment Was Only About Jinnah": Diya Krishna Responds To Fort Kochi Cafe Controversy

Kochi: Social media content creator and entrepreneur Diya Krishna, daughter of BJP leader Krishna Kumar, has issued a clarification regarding her recent social media activity that sparked widespread discussion online.

Addressing the controversy surrounding her comment under a travel vlogger’s video about Fort Kochi’s Kashi Art Cafe, she stated that her response was strictly aimed at the depiction of a specific historical figure.

The issue began when a North Indian content creator who posts under the Instagram handle “litichokkupp” uploaded a viral vlog recorded at the popular tourist spot.

In the video, the creator leveled intense, politically charged claims against the region, alleging that Fort Kochi has become completely dominated by one community, pointing out that the eatery’s menu consisted exclusively of beef dishes, and claiming that a portrait of Pakistan’s founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, was hung prominently alongside Mahatma Gandhi inside the establishment.

Diya Krishna directly engaged with this video by leaving a comment reading “sad reality” right underneath the reel.

Following immediate online scrutiny over her interaction with the post, she sought to clarify her specific focus within the video.

“My comment was regarding Jinnah, and that should be evident. Stop twisting it and making it about Kerala Muslims in Kochi,” Diya stated.

In the wake of her response, observers and digital creators have intensely scrutinized the situation, with many categorising the travel vlogger’s video as deliberate propaganda.

Netizens sharply countered Diya’s defense, arguing that if her objection was strictly about the portrait of Jinnah, she should have specified that clearly in her initial response.

They pointed out that by merely typing a generalized phrase like “sad reality” under a heavily polarized 90-second video, the immediate inference drawn by the public is an endorsement of the vlogger’s entire narrative.

Critics noted that this backtracking came only after the video faced immense public blowback and calls for a digital boycott of her business brands.

They point out that the presentation of the cafe’s artwork was heavily distorted to stoke regional and communal tensions, misrepresenting a long-standing cultural hub to create a false narrative about the socio-demographic realities of Keralam.
