"No Old Impact": Social Media Pour Mixed Review For Indian 2

Indian 2, a sequel to the 1996 Indian, hit the big screen today, with fans eager to feel S Shankar’s work with Ulaganayagan Kamal Hassan. The highly anticipated movie has not failed to goosebump the fans, according to the cinephiles’ reactions on social media. However, many have lamented that the movie did not reach the range of original Indian released in 1996.

An X user, Suriyakumar Palanisamy, urged people not to trust the negative reviews opining that It’s “an out and out Shankar’s family entertainer with lots of commercial mass masala.”

Expressing his confidence that that movie will create wonder in box office, the user said Indian 2 is a “decent one-time watchable” film, adding that the only negative he saw was the screenplay as it is in a usual format like the director’s old film. “If Kalki28989AD with an Unintelligible screenplay Can create records surely Indian2 can do Wonders because of its as-usual making. Support Our Tamil Film,” he wrote.

In a long post explaining the nuances of the movie, a user, Raghu Rajaram, observed that the film failed to connect with the audience. Talking about the music and BGM, the user said that the Anirudhan’s music and songs failed to make impact, while AR Rahman’s music stood up in the old Indian.

“Senapthy in original Indian was good with just that one get-up,” he wrote, noting that his cast in the Indian 2 with multiple looks for Kamal Hassan didn’t help the cause. “Very loose screenplay with the two track mission theme has only dragged the duration to 3 hours,” the user opined, adding that characters such as S J Suryah, Bobby Simha, late comedian Vivekh etc are just used as fillers and create no big impact. “Actor Sidharth has stood out in the performance but only in a losing cause,” Raghu Rajaram wrote, opining that none of the segments, apart from the climax fight sequence which again has resemblance of Anniyan, make an impact in the Indian 2.

Another user, Deepak Jangid, reviewed the movie as “an outdated and tedious movie.” Though the movie tries to give honest messages, it’s done in a boring way with no proper emotion and drama at all, the user wrote, admitting that despite Shankar trying to repeat the screenplay of his old movie, he failed to recreate the magic big time. Observing that all the emotions are completely artificial, the user said the film had a good start for about 20 minutes along with Senapathys entry “but continues to go down hill after that.” “The grandeur and production values are nice. Anirudh had no scope to give an impactful score. While you can at least sit through the first half, the second half doesn’t give you that chance. Disaster,” wrote Deepak Jangid.
The movie talks about corruption at national level, depicting a one-man fight against politicians, business tycoons and authorities, with scenes that can give goosebump to the fans.
