As Kamal Haasan’s movie “Indian 2” is set to release on Friday, music director Anirudh Ravichander expressed gratitude towards director Shankar and Oscar-winning musician AR Rahman, who composed the music for the original “Indian” (1996), calling them his “inspirations.”
“Thank you, my inspirations,” Anirudh wrote on Instagram, sharing a picture with the Maestro of Madras and the maverick director. The anticipation surrounding the vigilante sequel has sparked discussions about Shankar’s choice of Anirudh over Rahman.
At the audio launch of “Indian 2,” Anirudh humorously addressed this, quoting Rajinikanth’s iconic dialogue: “Six ku apram seven da.. Rahman sir ku apram evan da,” earning applause from fans. Shankar explained in an interview that Rahman was busy with “2.0” when he approached Anirudh, whose music he admired.
The 1996 prequel “Indian” was a box office hit, with Rahman’s soundtrack achieving massive success, selling about 600,000 units in Tamil and 1.8 million units in Hindi, totaling around 2.4 million units.
