'Ramayana' Goes Global: Poster Lights Up New York’s Times Square

Indian cinema witnessed a moment of global pride as the poster of Ramayana: The Introduction, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yashlit up New York City’s iconic Times Square on July 4, following its grand teaser launch in India.

The high-profile unveiling marks a historic milestone for the magnum opus, setting the stage for one of the most ambitious cinematic adaptations of the revered Indian epic.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, Ramayana: The Introduction has already garnered international attention for its scale, visual grandeur, and a stellar cast led by Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana. The film also features Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, among other prominent names.

The teaser’s broadcast on Times Square’s massive digital screens has sparked a wave of excitement on social media. Fans across the globe hailed the film’s global ambitions, with many calling it a defining moment for Indian mythology on the world stage.

If the visuals impressed audiences, the soundtrack promises to be equally iconic. For the first time, two of the world’s most acclaimed composers, Oscar-winning AR Rahman and legendary Hollywood maestro Hans Zimmer, have joined hands to create the score for Ramayana.

Zimmer, known for his powerful and evocative scores in The Dark Knight Trilogy, Gladiator, Interstellar, and Inception, brings his mastery of orchestral storytelling to the project. His collaboration with AR Rahman, the musical genius behind Slumdog Millionaire, Roja, and Lagaan, adds an unparalleled dimension to the film.

Rahman recently shared a behind-the-scenes photo with Zimmer on Instagram, captioning it: With @hanszimmer #ramayanamovie.”
The photo quickly went viral, further fuelling anticipation for the film’s soundtrack.

With a reported budget of ₹835 crores (approximately $98 million), Ramayana: The Introduction and its sequel Ramayana: The Conclusion are officially the most expensive Indian films ever made. The project aims not only to retell the ancient epic but to redefine the global perception of Indian filmmaking.

Part 1 (The Introduction) is currently in post-production and is set to release in November 2026, while Part 2 (The Conclusion) is currently being filmed and is scheduled for November 2027.
