In 2024, legendary actor Kamal Haasan shocked fans by renouncing his honourary title Ulaganayagan aka Universal Hero. Even though it disappointed fans, the actor’s humility in staying grounded received praise. And now, after months, the Thug Life actor revealed the true reason behind his decision.

Ulaganayagan, the Universal Hero, was the title that was predominantly used by his fans and the film fraternity to honour the actor’s contribution to Indian cinema. The actor, who desired to remain true to his roots, asked fans to address him simply as Kamal Haasan or KH.

The Indian 2 actor recently attended the book launch event of late legendary actor-writer Crazy Mohan in Chennai. The actor graced the event and launched the books of his longtime collaborator. The event was attended by other personalities like director KS Ravikumar, Jayaram and others.

During the event, he expressed his disbelief in such titles. He said, “If I had taken that title seriously and acted as though I’m the hero of the whole world, I would’ve lost so much. I don’t believe in such things.”

Reacting to this, director KS Ravikumar playfully addressed Kamal’s disapproval by saying, “Who are you to say that we shouldn’t call you that? We call you that because we love you.”
