Prithviraj Sukumaran Reveals Rajinikanth Inspired Mohanlal's Iconic Entry Scene In Lucifer

During an interview with Behindwoods, Malayalam actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran shared an interesting tidbit about the creation of the iconic entry scene of Mohanlal in his 2019 hit Lucifer.

Prithviraj revealed that the powerful moment was inspired by a story he heard about Superstar Rajinikanth.

The scene in Lucifer features Mohanlal’s character, Stephen Nedumpally, making his way through a crowd to pay respects to the late Kerala Chief Minister PK Ramdas.

Despite the police trying to block his path, Stephen steps out of his car and walks through the crowd, who part ways for him, creating an unforgettable cinematic moment. According to Prithviraj, this powerful entry was inspired by a story he read about Rajinikanth.

In the interview, Prithviraj explained, “You say that one scene is enough to tell who Mohanlal is, but that entire scene was inspired by a story I heard about Rajini sir.

It’s something I read in a news article about an incident on the road leading up to Poes Garden. I’m not sure if it’s true, but after reading it, I thought this scene could be conceived this way.”

Prithviraj also shared a heartwarming moment with Rajinikanth, revealing that the legendary actor was the first to watch the trailer of L2: Empuraan, the sequel to Lucifer. “He (Rajinikanth) watched my trailer multiple times, and we spoke a lot; I’ll never forget it. After the second time he watched it, he came and hugged me,” Prithviraj added.

The incident Prithviraj is likely referring to is an unverified story in which Rajinikanth’s car was stopped to allow a prominent Tamil Nadu politician to pass through.

Allegedly, Rajinikanth then got out of his car and walked towards his house or, in another version, to a nearby store for a smoke. This story, whether true or not, left a lasting impression on Prithviraj, inspiring the creation of the memorable scene in Lucifer.
