With only three days until its release, the film is on the way to break the record of Thalapathy Vijay’s Leo, the highest opening film in Kerala. The 2023-released action entertainer has crowned itself at the top by earning Rs 12 crore on day one in the state. Empuraan’s achievement is noteworthy since its predecessor, Lucifer (2019) earned Rs 6.1 crore on its opening day, a record at the time in Kerala.

As per the reports, Empuraan’s worldwide weekend advance sales have surpassed Rs 53 crores, marking a historic achievement for Malayalam cinema in the global market. The craze for L2 Empuraan is not just limited to India; even in North India, the film has crossed the Rs 3 crore mark just for its premiere shows.

In Australia, Empuraan has reported historic pre-sales with more than 601K Australian dollars clocked through the 28,000 tickets sold. In Germany, its four-day advance booking gross collection has exceeded €251K (Rs 2.33 crores).

Empuraan is the highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Lucifer, where Mohanlal, Manju Warrier, and Tovino Thomas delivered stellar performances. The sequel reunites Mohanlal with director Prithviraj for the third time.

Produced by Aashirvad Cinemas and Sree Gokulam Movies, Empuraan will be released in multiple languages, including Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil.

Mohanlal returns as Khureshi Ab’raam, also known as Stephen Nedumpally, while Prithviraj reprises his role as Zayed Masood, Ab’raam’s hitman. Most of the characters from Lucifer make a comeback, alongside new additions from Hindi and international cinema.
