Prithviraj Sukumaran’s ‘Khalifa’ Hits Theatres Today
Prithviraj Sukumaran’s much-awaited action thriller ‘Khalifa: The Ruler’ has finally arrived in theatres today, August 20, as one of the major Malayalam releases of the Onam season.
Directed by Vysakh and written by Jinu V. Abraham, the film brings the duo together with Prithviraj after 15 years, following their 2010 blockbuster Pokkiri Raja.
Prithviraj plays Mambarakkal Aamir Ali, a powerful figure whose world is connected to gold smuggling, revenge, family legacy and an international criminal network.
The trailer, released on August 17, gives a glimpse into Aamir’s dangerous world, with high-octane action, chase sequences, stylish mass moments and a conflict rooted in the history of the Mambarakkal family.

One of the biggest attractions is Mohanlal, who appears as Mambarakkal Ahmad Ali, Aamir’s grandfather. However, his appearance is understood to be an introduction to a much larger character arc planned for the second part of the franchise.
The film’s technical crew includes Jomon T. John as cinematographer, Chaman Chacko as editor and Jakes Bejoy as composer.

The makers have mounted it as the first part of a planned two-part story, making today’s release more of an introduction to the larger world and characters.
Released in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, the 159-minute film carries a UA 16+ certificate.
