Director Ram Gopal Varma raised doubts over the reported box office numbers of Ram Charan’s latest political thriller, Game Changer, with Kiara Advani. Highlighting the alleged discrepancies between the box office collection reported by the makers and other trade analysts, the filmmaker claimed that the numbers proposed by the makers were fraudulent.

Directed by Shankar, the makers of Game Changer shared that the film has earned Rs 186 crore on day one of its release, which is January 10. They also shared their achievement through a poster on their official social media page. If true, this would make the film the fourth-best opening Indian film ever, behind only Pushpa 2, Baahubali 2, and RRR.

However, sources like the Sacnilk report show that the film opened under Rs 100 crore, reporting the day one collection as Rs 80 crore.

Citing these huge differences in the reports, director RGV sarcastically wrote, “If @ssrajamouli and @SukumarWritings skyrocketed Telugu cinema in real-time collections into a fantastically stratospheric heights, thereby sending legitimate shock waves into Bollywood, the people behind G C succeeded in proving that the south is much more FANTASTIC in being a FRAUD.”

The filmmaker also questioned the budget and day one collection of the film while comparing it to the highest-grossing films of Telugu, like RRR and Pushpa. Claiming that the film’s collection was ‘unbelievable,’ he wrote, “In the context of G C a LIE should sound even more BELIEVABLE.”

In another tweet, the filmmaker questioned the box office collections of Shankar’s directorial and added, “I truly don’t know who’s behind this highly humiliating, disgracing insult of undermining the extraordinary achievements of the south, thanks to Baahubali, RRR, KGF 2, Kantara, etc., and all of their achievements will now be in doubt because of GC claims.”

The filmmaker absolved Game Changer producer Dil Raju but wondered who was behind the ‘lies.’ He wrote, “I don’t know who’s behind these unbelievably naive lies, but for sure it can’t be producer Dil Raju because he is a truly grounded realist, and he’s incapable of the fraud that is being committed.”

The pan-Indian entertainer and the Telugu directorial debut of director Shankar features Ram Charan, Kiara Advani, and SJ Suryah in lead roles. It also includes Anjali, Samuthirakani, Srikanth, Sunil, Jayaram, Naveen Chandra, Vennela Kishore, Vijaya Krishna Naresh, and Brahmanandam in supporting roles.
