'Ruined Joys': Actor Aishwarya Lekshmi Says She Quits Social Media

Malayalam and Tamil actor Aishwarya Lekshmi announced that he is quitting social media. The actor, in an Instagram story, said that she is tired of catering to the image of what she is expected to be online. The actor said she is taking the risk of being forgotten with her social media abstinence, but it’s a risk she’s willing to take, she underlines.

The actor said she is going to focus on her life and career instead, adding that she was subscribed to the idea that social media had been needed for her career as an actor for a long time. Aishwarya pointed out she thought social media were necessary to move with the times, especially considering the nature of the industry she is in.

However, the actor says, the digital platforms have successfully distracted her from what her work and research should be. “It has taken away every original thought from me, affected my vocabulary and language, and made every other simpler pleasure joyless,” the actor wrote. The Instagram account is now not accessible.

The actor says leaving social media was the first original thought she has had in a while. On the reasons to abstain from the platforms, Aishwarya says she now refuses to be one that’s made from a generic mold and caters to the whims and fancies of a supernet. “As a woman, I have had to train myself a lot to even be aware of grooming and control, and trained even harder to resist it. This is the first original thought that I have had in a while,” the actor added.
