Actor Soori is all set to return to the big screens with his family entertainer Maaman. Written by Soori himself, the film has been directed by Prasanth Pandiyaraj, known for the web series Vilangu.

Excelling on-screen as a lead actor, Soori brings something heartwarming with this family entertainer. Much like the title, which translates to maternal uncle, the film revolves around Maaman’s affection for his nephew. Directed by Prashanth Pandiyaraj, the film will explore the never-fading family emotions while reminding the audience of their personal experiences.

Soori has been playing diverse roles in cinema as a comedian and now as a lead actor. The experienced actor has now begun his journey as a writer with Maaman. Yes, the story of Maaman was written by Soori, reflecting his thoughts on the importance of relationships.

After delivering rugged action entertainers like Viduthalai sequels, Garudan, and Kottukaali, the actor wanted to offer something light-hearted and a grounded role as a family man. Instead of waiting for one such story, the actor decided to pen one himself. This is what gave birth to the family emotional drama, Maaman.

Soori’s Inspiration Behind Maaman

The story of Maaman is inspired by Soori’s real-life experience. The actor, who wanted to explore the deeper and unique layers of the relationship, penned down a story that was deeply rooted in him.

The story of Maaman got its shape during the Covid-19 lockdown, when he was exploring the art of writing scripts. He said, “I wrote six to seven stories during that time and Maaman was one of them.”

Speaking about his personal emotions towards the film’s concept, Soori said that once a person becomes a maaman, that bond lasts forever and the film captures the special connection.

A Family Entertainer with a Personal Connection

“Everyone has stories to tell, and likewise, I too have some to narrate,” said Soori emphasising the soul of the emotional drama. Promising that the film will offer a personal connection to the audience, the actor humorously said that after watching it, the audience may feel that he had copied their personal story.

Soori further added that the story of Maaman might have happened in everyone’s life. Without revealing any major twists, he said that whatever happens in the film has been going on in families for ages.

Maaman has officially received a ‘U’ certificate from the CBFC board, promising a wholesome family entertainer. With a total runtime of 2 hours and 32 minutes, the film vows to be a crisp and engaging one.
