Appreciation has been flooding over the craft of the filmmaker PS Vinoth Raj. With his usual signature, the director revisited the themes of patriarchy and misogyny in this deceptively simple story of an adamant girl who refuses to marry the man her family has chosen for her.
With a village girl Meena who uses silence as her retaliatory weapon, and Paandi’s mounting frustration and explosive sequence that leaves the audience shaken. The film features the story of an adamant girl with an unbroken spirit and the family’s chaos around her. Exploring the concepts of casteism, toxic masculinity, and damaging superstition, the movie narrates the young girl’s determination over her love for a lower caste man.
