On the occasion of Ulaganayakan, aka Kamal Haasan’s birthday, the team behind the upcoming Thug Life announced the film’s release date with yet another sneak peek with a teaser and a thematic poster.

As the Indian cinema industry celebrates the star Kamal Haasan on his birthday, the Mani Ratnam directorial’s team commemorated the day with an announcement of the release date of his project, Thug Life, both in Tamil and Hindi. The film will be hitting theatres on June 5, 2025.

Even though major information about the film remains under wraps, the team offered a glimpse of the gangster world of thugs in the new announcement teaser. Moreover, the makers also released a poster featuring Kamal Haasan and STR in their intense avatars. Speaking of the fierce look of the two stars, Kamal Haasan wrote, “Every role is an evolution, every film a journey. #Thuglife.”

The bloody red theme poster spots Kamal Haasan in his Thug Life look sporting a long hairdo and a beard and STR in his intense glare. The teaser introduces Kamal Haasan in two different looks of his dual roles. Flickering through the snaps of Thug Life, the teaser ends with the intro sequence of STR and a voiceover calling, “Vinvezhi Nayaga,” which roughly translates to “hero of the universe.”

Kamal Haasan wrapped the filming for Thug Life in September. The film reunites director Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan after 35 years. Their last collaboration was the 1987 film Nayakan. Kamal began the shooting in January this year across various locations.

Backed by Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies and Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International, Thug Life stars Kamal Haasan, Silambarasan TR, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Abhirami, Nasser, and Ali Fazal, among others. With music by AR Rahman and cinematography handled by Ravi K. Chandran.
