However, it gradually found viewers through positive word of mouth, with many appreciating its family-oriented comedy and relatable characters after its release.
Encouraged by the growing popularity, the makers went ahead with a sequel. Bharatanatyam 2: Mohiniyattam opened to a much stronger response and was widely appreciated for its dark humour, quirky storytelling and entertaining performances.
The sequel helped establish the franchise as a dependable comedy series among Malayalam audiences.
The first Bharatanatyam featured an ensemble cast led by Saiju Kurup, alongside Saikumar, Kalaranjini, Sreeja Ravi, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Divya M. Nair and several others who brought the family comedy to life.
The second installment, Bharatanatyam 2: Mohiniyattam, expanded the ensemble with Suraj Venjaramoodu and Baby Jean, whose performances and comic timing became major highlights, alongside Jagadish, Vinay Forrt, Kalaranjini, Sreeja Ravi, Swathi Das Prabhu, Nandu Poduval, Santhosh Guruvayur and others.
With Rasaleela, the successful team of Saiju Kurup and Krishnadas Murali reunites once again. Although the supporting cast has not yet been announced, fans are expecting several familiar faces from the previous films to return.
The title Rasaleela has also sparked curiosity, continuing the franchise’s tradition of using names inspired by Indian classical art forms. More details about the cast, production schedule and release date are expected to be announced in the coming months.
