The Oscar entries are the talk of the town as of now. With the jury’s selection of Laapataa Ladies has been exciting the fans across the country, two days after the delightful announcement is here. Another nomination of Indian movie for the Oscars. Sandhya Suri’s hard hitting police procedural drama Santosh has been selected for the UK’s official entry in the race of Best International Feature Film at the Oscars 2024.
As per the reports, Santosh was selected by the BAFTA, the organisation appointed by the American Academy to choose the UK’s official submission. The film became eligible for the UK selection as it has a wide release there and notably the film was backed by British producers.

Moreover, the film stars Shahana Goswami and Sunita Rajwar in the lead roles and it was premiered at Cannes Film Festival. Produced by Mike Goodridge, James Bowsher, Balthazar de Ganay, and Alan McAlex. Executive producers are Ama Ampadu, Eva Yates, Diarmid Scrimshaw, Lucia Haslauer, and Martin Gerhard and the film is financed by BFI and BBC Film.
UK routinely selects non-English language films for Oscars as it is a requirement for the Best International Feature Film at the Oscars.

So now, Santhosh will compete with Laapataa Ladies along with dozens of other films nominated around the world. The final nominations, which will include five films, will be announced in January 2025 by the Academy.
The plot of the film revolves around a 28-year-old widow, who takes her late husband’s job as a police officer and was assigned to investigate the case of a young girl’s murder.
