Following her statements, the Maharashtra Forest Department summoned her after a Mumbai-based NGO raised concerns over her claims. In a written complaint, the NGO asked the forest department to take legal action against her and everyone involved in hunting or consuming wild animals.
In the complaint, PAWS claimed that Chhaya’s statements sent a wrong message to the public and constituted an offence under various sections of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and the sections of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002. Claiming the statement of the actress as an “admission of guilt,” the NGO has urged authorities to investigate and take legal measures against her.
As per the report, the complaint has now been forwarded to the Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) for further investigation. A special team was also formed to dig deeper into the claims. Rakesh Bhoir, the investigating officer in the case, has also assured that strict action will be taken against the culprits involved in the crime.
