Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, & Mohanlal Shine At 71st National Film Awards 2025
All eyes were on Vigyan Bhavan today as the 71st National Film Awards celebrated the finest talents of Indian cinema. The evening was highlighted by Shah Rukh Khan winning his first-ever National Award for Jawan, Rani Mukerji taking home Best Actress for Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, and the legendary Mohanlal being honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, a tribute to his unparalleled contribution to Malayalam cinema.

President Droupadi Murmu personally presented the awards, marking a historic night for the industry.
The ceremony, streamed live on Doordarshan’s YouTube channel from 4 pm, also showcased the best of 2023 films. Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail clinched the top honour of Best Feature Film, while the quirky satire Kathal – A Jackfruit Mystery was named Best Hindi Film.
Vikrant Massey shared the Best Actor award alongside Shah Rukh Khan, adding another highlight to the evening.
Other notable winners included Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur, recognised for Best Makeup, Best Costume, and promoting National, Social, and Environmental Values. Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani earned Best Popular Film and Best Choreography, while Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal featured across multiple technical categories, including Best Sound Design and Special Mention for Re-recording. Sudipto Sen’s The Kerala Story scored a double win with Best Director and Best Cinematography, further reflecting the diversity of Indian cinema this year.
The announcement of winners had been made earlier on August 1 at a press conference in New Delhi by filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, but today’s live ceremony brought the honours to life, with red-carpet glamour, heartfelt speeches, and celebrations across the industry.
