Among the first to congratulate him was Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who hailed Mohanlal’s contribution to Indian cinema. In its official statement, the Ministry described Mohanlal as “a legendary actor, director, and producer whose remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations.” The note further highlighted how his “unmatched talent, versatility, and relentless hard work have set a golden standard in Indian film history.”
Mohanlal began acting at just 18 with the film Thiranottam (1978), though it was released much later in 2005. His formal big-screen debut came with Manjil Virinja Pookkal in 1980, which introduced audiences to his natural charm and screen presence.
Since then, he has featured in over 400 films across Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada cinema. His repertoire includes a wide range of roles, from commercial blockbusters to critically acclaimed classics, proving his status as one of the most versatile performers in Indian cinema.
Over the years, Mohanlal has bagged five National Film Awards, countless state honours, and recognition from film bodies across the country. Yet, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award marks a crowning moment—one that acknowledges his cultural impact on Indian cinema at large.
