"Whatever You Do, Do It With Josh And If You Fail, Accept, Rectify, & Say Sorry”: Mohanlal Shares Enlightening Experience With Students On Anti-Drug Day

Kochi, Kerala: As part of an impactful anti-drug awareness campaign organised by his own NGO Viswasanthi Foundation in collaboration with Manorama Online on June 26, International Anti-Drug Day, legendary actor Mohanlal interacted with school students in a thought-provoking session that went beyond the message of drug prevention, touching deeply on life values, personal responsibility, and the power of humility.

During the interactive discussion, one student curiously asked the actor, “You travel so much – what has been your most memorable experience?”

Answering her question, Mohanlal recounted a profound experience from his travels in Japan that, in his own words, gave him a moment of “enlightenment and revelation.”

He recalled: “I was on a train in Japan. After placing my luggage on the upper rack, I noticed dust on my hands. As an attendant passed by, we pointed it out and she politely apologised before walking away. We assumed that was the end of it. But a few minutes later, a man came to us—he bowed, he apologised sincerely and spoke continuously for nearly five minutes, taking full responsibility for the oversight.”

What struck Mohanlal was not just the apology, but the depth of sincerity and ownership the staff showed. It was, he said, a turning point in how he viewed accountability. “That was a revelation. When you do something, do it with a full heart, with joy. And if someone tells you it’s not perfect, don’t hold a grudge. Accept it. Correct it. And never hesitate to say sorry, that’s how you grow. That’s how you improve.”

He also emphasised that taking pride in one’s work is noble, but true greatness lies in the willingness to accept feedback, embrace mistakes, and grow from them.

After the interactive session, Mohanlal also took a pledge along with the students and others, declaring: “Health and the future of my family and nation are my priorities. I love my dear ones, and for their sake, I will never use drugs. I will completely stay away from drugs and work hard to achieve my dreams. I will stay informed about the harmful effects of drugs and share this awareness with my friends. If I see anyone using drugs, I will support and help them come out of it, keeping them happy and healthy. I say NO to drugs and YES to life.”

According to organisers, International Anti-Drug Day was marked with a series of activities across Kerala, including educational sessions in schools, awareness walks in public spaces, street plays, guest lectures, and creative campaigns led by student volunteers. The initiative aimed to spark meaningful conversations around substance abuse, mental health, peer pressure, and the value of self-discipline.
