Yatra, released in 2019, was a biographical film based on the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, late YS Rajasekhara Reddy (popularly known as YSR). In the movie, Mammootty delivered an impressive performance as the Chief Minister and has received critical acclaim. In contrast to other biopics, Yatra focused on a particular milestone in YSR’s life – the historic padayatra he undertook, which changed the direction of Andhra’s politics.
In 2003, Mr Reddy took a three-month-long padayatra covering 1500 km meeting people across 11 districts of the state. The journey by foot led the party to victory in 2004, and YSR became the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
The sequel, Yatra 2, will tell the story of YSR’s son, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the current Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Jiiva will portray the role of his son, narrating his political journey.
Directed by Mahi V Raghav, Yatra 2 is produced by Shiva Meka under the banners of V Celluloid and Three Autumn Leaves Banner. Santhosh Narayanan will score the music for the film, and Madhie handles the cinematography.
Mammootty was recently seen in the crime-drama, Kannur Squad, directed by Roby Varghese Raj. His upcoming releases include Bramayugam, directed by Rahul Sadasivan, and Kaathal: The Core directed by Jeo Baby among many others.
Jiiva was last seen in Varalaru Mukkiyam, a romantic comedy directed by Santhosh Rajan. He was also seen in a cameo appearance in Venkat Prabhu’s Custody, a period action thriller film.
