'Rs 3.6 Crore Egg Puffs Spending': TDP Vs YSRCP In Andhra Pradesh

TDP vs YSRCP On Rs 3.6 Crore Egg Puffs Spending During Jagan Mohan Reddy's Tenure

The ruling TDP accused former Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s government of allegedly making excessive spending on snacks during their tenure, stating that the government spent over 3.62 crore on egg puffs over five years. As some media ran stories about the allegation, the YSRCP, in a post on X, expressed disappointment to see journalists falling for “such baseless rumors” without verifying facts or citing credible sources.

“How can one tweet such blatant misinformation without any confirmation or evidence? Taking random information from social media and turning it into “news” is a disservice to journalism,” the party wrote, expressing its pity that sensationalism is being prioritized over the truth. “Let’s focus on facts, not fabricated stories,” the YSRCP wrote.

The allegation suggested that Rs 72 lakh were spent on average each year on egg puffs. With Rs 20 for an egg puff, a total of 18 lakh egg puffs were consumed in five years, as per the allegations. Calling it an ‘egg puff scandal,’ the data was reportedly discovered during the Naidu government’s investigation into the alleged financial irregularities and misuse of public funds for personal leisure by the previous government.

Reacting to YSRCP’s post on X regarding the allegations, the TDP wrote, “Nobody is egg-aggerating. That’s your area of eggs-pertise. Everyone’s just egg-pressing facts that are beginning to hatch out of shells now. This is just the beginning of an investigation into your misdeeds. Don’t be terrified so early, YSRCP. (BTW, can that Y stand for yolk now?)”

After coming to power, the TDP had made another similar allegation against Reddy government. The party accused the former chief minister of building a palatial and opulent bungalow atop the picturesque beachfront Rushikonda Hills in Visakhapatnam with public money for Reddy’s personal luxury. The government had reportedly spent over Rs 500 crore to build the palace. Responding to the allegation, Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) had said that buildings are government assets rather than private properties of Jagan Mohan Reddy.

In the recent assembly elections, the TDP won 135 seats, while the YSRCP managed to secure only 11, giving Naidu’s party a spectacular victory over Reddy’s ruling party.
