“No Case, Governor's Decision Unconstitutional”: Siddaramaiah

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that there is no case against him in the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam and, the Governor’s decision today that he approved the prosecution of the chief minister over alleged irregularities is “unconstitutional.”

“We will challenge this illegal sanction in the court of law. From the very day the complaint was filed against me, a show-cause notice was issued. This move by the Governor was anticipated,” he said in video posted on social media.

The chief minister said that he will challenge this “illegal sanction in the court of law.” “From the very day the complaint was filed against me, a show-cause notice was issued. This move by the Governor was anticipated,” Siddaramaiah added.

The chief minister also alleged “a grand conspiracy” hatched against him to undermine the state government. “The BJP and JD(S) leaders in the state are all part of this scheme. Just as they did in Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, and Delhi, they are now attempting to execute their plans in Karnataka,” he said. adding that they will not let this pass, referring to the central agencies cases against the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and  Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren.

The chief minister further alleged that the governor has become “a puppet in the hands of the Central Government,” and said granting prosecution sanction against him was nothing but a sinister conspiracy to destabilise an elected government.

“This is a direct threat to democracy! The Governor has been reduced to a political weapon by the BJP. They lack any moral right to demand my resignation. The BJP cannot stomach the success of our Congress Karnataka government and the Guarantee schemes that are benefiting the common people. We stand strong and united against this political vendetta!.” siddaramaiah said.

Raj Bhavan earlier today had confirmed that the governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has approved the prosecution of the chief minister in MUDA scam. The opposition BJP has been accusing the chief minister of being involved in the alleged irregularities in connection with the land allotment. The chief minister’s wife, Parwathi is named as one of the beneficiary of the MUDA’s 50:50 scheme. Under the scheme, land owners were promised 50% of the developed site per acre that they provide for development.

Parvathi had owned 3 acres and 16 guntas of land in Kesare village, which was acquired by MUDA for development.  She was compensated with sites totaling 38,283 sq ft in Vij. However it is alleged that the market value of these sites in Vijayanagar was  higher than the original land in Kesare.
