Siddaramaiah Seeks Deputy CM Post For Son Yathindra Amid Karnataka Leadership Change: Report

Amid the ongoing political transition in Karnataka, outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has reportedly sought the post of Deputy Chief Minister for his son and MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah, according to sources quoted by News18.

The development comes as the Congress leadership works to finalise the formation of the next government in the state following Siddaramaiah’s resignation as Chief Minister.

Sources claimed that Siddaramaiah conveyed his request during a series of meetings with the Congress high command in New Delhi.

Siddaramaiah also informed the party leadership that senior Congress leaders KJ George and G Parameshwara were not interested in taking up the role of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president.

He reportedly suggested that both leaders should instead be accommodated in the new state cabinet.

The political discussions gained momentum after Siddaramaiah held multiple meetings with senior Congress leaders in Delhi.

On Friday, the veteran leader met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge at his residence. He was accompanied by Karnataka ministers Priyank Kharge, KJ George and his son Yathindra Siddaramaiah.

Earlier, Siddaramaiah also met Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi at 10 Janpath.

Discussions during these meetings focused on the new Karnataka government formation, Rajya Sabha elections and the broader political transition in the state.

Karnataka CM Transition: DK Shivakumar Likely To Replace Siddaramaiah

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar confirmed that the Congress Legislature Party meeting would be held on Saturday in Bengaluru. He said all MLAs had been asked to remain present as the party prepares for the next phase of leadership changes.

The political developments come a day after Siddaramaiah resigned as Karnataka Chief Minister following directions from the Congress high command.

Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot later accepted his resignation and dissolved the Council of Ministers with immediate effect. However, Siddaramaiah has been asked to continue as caretaker Chief Minister until alternative arrangements are made.

Despite stepping down, Siddaramaiah expressed confidence that the Congress still enjoys a strong majority in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and said the constitutional process for selecting the next Chief Minister would be followed.
