Hitting out YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Nara Lokesh today said that the former chief minister was building a palace for himself with public money while the poor struggled to thatch a roof over their children’s heads. He was referring to the Vizag ‘hill palace‘, which recently caused a row over Jagan Mohan Reddy’s handling of state finance after the TDP released footage of the extravagant palace. Notably, the YSR Congress Party has rejected the allegations saying it is a government-owned property and does not belong to anyone.
In his post on X (formerly Twitter), the TDP leader further said that the party will launch an investigation and ensure that justice is served, and the building is devoted to the people of Andhra Pradesh.

The controversy erupted over the opulent buildings constructed atop Rushikonda by the previous government after TDP MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao visited the property and raised suspicions noting alleged secretive nature of the building and lack of transparency in construction. The party also accused the former chief minister of misusing public money and building a luxurious palace to serve as a camp office for him as he declared Visakhapatnam as one of the three capitals of Andhra Pradesh.
According to the TDP, the palace worth 500 crore spent 40 lakhs on the bathtub, 33 crores for internal decoration and 50 crores for landscaping of the 9-acre.
The YSRCP has countered the allegations saying that the hill palace was constructed for tourism purpose and that it is a government building and not the chief minister’s private property. However, the TDP keeps alleging the previous regime pointing out the lavish expenditure at the Rushikonda Palace and noting the state’s “dire condition financial condition”.
