Andhra Pradesh Assembly Election: TDP Wins 19 Seats So Far While YSRCP Remains Zero

In Andhra Pradesh, assembly election for 175 constituencies were also held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha election of 25 Lok Sabha seats on May 13. The ruling YSRCP (Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party) has contested in all 175 seats, while its major rival TDP (Telugu Desam Party) has pitted candidates in 144 constituencies. Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party has fielded candidates in 21 seats, and BJP has fielded candidates in 10 seats.

TDP is leading in 134 assembly seats of Andhra Pradesh, with winning 19 seats so far. Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party is trailing behind with 21 seats, by winning four seats so far. BJP has won one seat, and the incumbent YSRCP is still at zero.

The expectations are at the peak that who would come back to power, Jagan Mohan or Chandrababu Naidu. While Naidu is looking for a second term after the bifurcation of Telangana, the current Chief Minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy, is seeking for yet another landslide victory like the last election.

Reportedly, the Andhra Pradesh Assembly Election saw 2,378 candidates vying for the 175 legislative assembly seats. Parties are hoping to cross the 88-seat mark that would guarantee a comfortable rise of power in the state.

While YSRCP took up the election as a single power, Chandrababu Naidu sought to ally with BJP and Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party. Congress also seeks to win the single-digit win in Telangana.

During the 2019 Assembly Election, YSRCP had a sweeping victory by winning over the 151 seats of the total 175 seats. TDP could only win 23 seats in the election. In the Lok Sabha election, the YSRCP has won 22 out of the 25 seats and TDP could only win three seats.

Vote counting of assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh is nail biting. It is extremely crucial for Chandrababu Naidu, who has declared the election to be his “last election”. The TDP leader made an emotional appeal to voters, stressing the stakes for the TDP’s future. For Jagan Mohan Reddy, the win is mandatory to confirm the mammoth support his party won back in 2019, as a single power, and to stand against the alleged mounting anti-incumbency sentiments and joined opposition forces.

According to reports, Naidu will take oath on June 9 with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah attending the function.
