This Lok Sabha election is critical for all the three biggies of Andhra Pradesh. While Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSRCP (Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party) has swept 22 out of the 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state, this year, the party might face a substantial setback, which potentially will affect the political landscape of the state.

As per the exit poll released by several agencies and national media outlets, the BJP-TDP-Jana Sena alliance could cost Jagan Mohan Reddy hugely. Though Jagan Mohan has gone all out on retain his party’s dominance in the state, it appears that his works were not enough. The alliance of three major rivals appears to pose threat to the YSR supremacy in the state.

On the other hand, the conflict with his own sibling Y S Sharmila, who has been campaigning strongly for Congress, and the subsequent confusion and second thoughts in voters also pose a threat of split in votes for YSRCP.

While YSRCP relies on the welfare schemes the incumbent government has extended to the population of Andhra Pradesh, the BJP-TDP-Jana Sena alliance depends on the consolidation of the anti-incumbency sentiments. The alliance points out the financial crisis in which the state now is at due to the alleged mismanagement by the YSRCP government.

Another threat for Jagan Mohan is that if the situation unfolds, his sister Y S Sharmila could take back the vote bank and support their father Rajasekhara Reddy had, an influential Congress leader, and former Chief Minister of the state. Sharmila repeatedly pledged her accusation on Jagan Mohan’s support for Y S Avinash Reddy, the siblings’ nephew and the prime suspect in the murder of their uncle, Y S Vivekananda Reddy, who was found dead while the 2019 general election was at the corner.

The public display of family feud over power and murder accusations, growing economic crisis, and the strong and firm opposition from BJP-TDP-Jana Sena could possibly flip YSRCP’s massive victory of 2019 to a rude shock this year.
