A dirty toilet in Shankarrao Chavan Government Hospital in Maharashtra’s Nanded was cleaned by the Dean when Shiv Sena MP instructed him.
The government hospital made to headlines when it reported 24 deaths in Monday and then it rose to 31 in 48 hours on Tuesday. Besides, the situation of 71 patients are critical. According to officials, the 24 includes 12 new born infants.
Considering the severity of the incident, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) MP Hemant Patil visited the hospital and analysed the situation. It was then, MP spotted a dirty toilet and asked the Shyamrao Wakode, the Dean of the hospital to clean it.
The videos of MP holding and spraying the pipe into the toilet and Mr. Wakode with a wiper directing the dirty water to latrine is shared on social media.
When allegations were raised about medical negligence, Mr. Wakode dismissed the accusations and said that there were no shortage of doctors or medicines. The patients were given proper treatment, but they did not respond, he said.
Regarding the incident, Minister of Medical Education of Maharashtra, Hasan Mushrif told ANI: “We will carry out a thorough investigation. I have briefed Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis regarding the same. I will visit the hospital and a committee of doctors will be formed,”
The Congress Chief, Mallikarjun Kharge in a post on X in Hindi, expressed condolence over the death of 24 persons and demanded a detailed investigation. “We demand a detailed investigation, so that the culprits of this negligence are given strict punishment from the judiciary,” he wrote.
