
Ahmedabad Plane Crash: Major Aircraft Accidents In India Over The Years (image-X/zarrar_11PK)
An Air India aircraft, Flight A171 bound for London, crashed near Ahmedabad airport on Thursday. The aircraft carrying 242 passengers crashed shortly after take-off near Meghani Nagar. Emergency response teams, including the fire brigade, were immediately rushed to the spot.
The aircraft was under the command of Capt. Sumeet Sabharwal with First Officer Clive Kundar.
According to the eyewitness, the aircraft had collided with the Ahmedabad airport boundary just seconds after its take-off.

Air India Express Flight IX-1344 – 2020:
On August 7, 2020, Air India Express flight flying from Dubai to Kozhikode, operating under the Vande Bharat mission bringing in repatriate Indians stranded abroad due to the COVID-19 pandemic, crashed while attempting to land at the airport’s tabletop runway during heavy rainfall and low visibility. The crash claimed 21 lives including two pilots, and more than 100 were injured. -
Air India Express Flight IX-812 –2010:
On May 22, 2010, Air India Express flying from Dubai to Mangalore carrying 166 people on board, upon landing at the tabletop runway, overshot later bursting into flames. The crash resulted in 158 fatalities with only 8 survivors. -
Alliance Air Flight 7412 – 2000:
On July 17, 2000, Alliance Air Flight crashed into the residential region near Patna Airport in Bihar. The accident occurred when the aircraft, Boeing 737-2A8, was attempting a go-around maneuver during landing. The crash claimed the lives of 60 people – 55 passengers and 5 individuals on the ground. -
Charkhi Dadri Mid-Air Collision – 1996:
On November 12, 1996, the aircraft near Charkhi Dadri in Haryana, two commercial flights – Saudi Arabian Airlines Flight 763 and Kazakhstan Airlines Flight 1907 – both collided mid-air due to miscommunication and violation of altitude instruction. All 349 passengers and crew members aboard the two aircraft lost their lives. -
Indian Airlines Flight 491 – 1993:
On April 26, 1993, Indian Airlines Flight 491, shortly after take-off from the Aurangabad Airport in Maharashtra, collided with a truck that had entered the runway. Out of 118 passengers on board, 55 lost their lives.Read also: Ahmedabad Plane Crash – What Do We Know?

Indian Airlines Flight 605 – 1990:
On February 14, 1990, Indian Airlines Flight 605, while attempting to land at Bangalore’s HAL Airport in Karnataka, crashed, which led to the death of 92 on board. -
Indian Airlines Flight 113 – 1988:
On October 19, 1988, Indian Airlines Flight 113, a Boeing 737, crashed near the airport, resulting in the loss of 133 lives. The pilot’s attempt to land amid poor visibility had led to the tragic accident. -
Air India Flight 855 – 1978:
On January 1, 1978, Air India Flight 855, a Boeing 747, crashed into the Arabian Sea off the coast of Mumbai, claiming the lives of all 213 passengers and crew onboard. The flight crew experienced failure which led to its loss of control.
