Hailakandi Shocker: 5 Teenagers Arrested For Rapping & Murdering Minor Girl In Assam
Hailakandi, Assam: Police have arrested at least five teenagers for the alleged rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl in Assam’s Hailakandi district. The gangrape of the teenage girl had sparked major outrage across the state, as the culprits committed the brutal crime inside the victim’s house on August 1.
The victim’s mother and younger brother found her body in a pool of blood when they returned from her grandmother’s funeral rituals. According to the police, the accused used a brick to kill the girl. Notably, all of the accused are teenagers. Police found that the victim was in a relationship with an 18-year-old accused, while another accused also claimed to be in a relationship with her.
The accused teenagers then teamed up and allegedly decided to take vengeance on the girl for being in touch with both. On the night of the brutal crime, the girl reportedly told her boyfriend her family was away, the boy went to her house with two friends. Together they attacked the girl at home, gangraping and killing the victim.
Police have registered the case under rape, murder, and the POCSO Act for crimes against minors. A Special Investigation Team and forensic teams are probing the Hailakandi rape and murder case. The incident led to protests in Hailakandi demanding strict action.
