Bareilly ,Uttar Pradesh: Authorities in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly has demolished a chicken biryani shop in Bareilly’s Baheri area on Friday evening August 7. The officials cited that the demolition is part of an anti-encroachment drive during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra.

According to officials, the structure run by Mohd Salman was built illegally over a drain on the main Kanwar Yatra route. Notably, shortly before the destruction, Bajrang Dal goons reportedly stormed the chicken biryani shop near the Kanwar Yatra route, forced it shut, leading to a confrontation with the shop owner.

Bajrang Dal workers said they purchased a kilogram of biryani from the shop to confirm it was serving non-veg food, after which they confronted the owners and alerted police. Though Salman’s father said the family apologised on the spot, he was dragged away and detained, citing concerns over public peace amid the massive pilgrimage, during which lakhs of Kanwar pilgrims pass through Bareilly.

The shop was also razed to the ground on Friday evening, sparking debate about targeting religious minorities.
