Congress Blasts Government Over "Begging US For Concessions"
New Delhi, March 6: The Congress today blasted the BJP government at the Centre “for capitulating before the United States and begging for concessions and seeking waivers”. The party asked what authority does the US have to allow or disallow India to import Russian oil.
Addressing a press conference here today, Congress spokesperson and Chairman of the Media and Publicity Department Pawan Khera said that Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s words had yet again proved prophetic that the US would decide from whom we should be purchasing oil.
Referring to the announcement of the one-month waiver granted by the US allowing India to import Russian oil, Khera asked, “Will the US grant us a licence for importing oil?” He pointed out that the trade deal has not even been signed yet, and still the restrictions were being imposed on India.
He noted that after the US Supreme Court had set aside the Trump tariffs, Rahul Gandhi had asked the Prime Minister to keep the deal on hold, but he did not. “Because Prime Minister Modi does not have the courage to back out of the trade deal”, he remarked.
Khera regretted that under Prime Minister Modi, the country had been reduced to being a client state, a vassal state, a tin-pot state and a banana republic. He pointed out that people still remember the days of Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi, and now with a compromised Prime Minister, the country’s stature had come down. “Congress never allowed the country’s prestige be compromised”, he pointed out.
Khera also took strong exception to US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau’s remarks during his speech at the Raisina Dialogue in the presence of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, where he had bluntly said that America would watch the interests of its own people in the trade deal. He expressed surprise over Jaishankar’s complete silence.
The Congress spokesperson played an old video of Modi, where he asserted and boasted about India’s leveraging power because of his population. He pointed out, the same Prime Minister had completely capitulated before the Americans today. “What are you scared of?” he asked, adding, “Maybe the Epstein files make you do whatever America wants you to do”.
“Can such a Prime Minister do justice to India?” he asked, while remarking, “the people of India cannot expect justice from a compromised cabinet with a compromised Prime Minister, who are compromising the country’s interests”.
