In his annual Vijaya Dashami address in Nagpur, Maharashtra, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat criticised attempts to exploit societal diversity for divisive politics. Bhagwat warned that such actions could destabilise the country and foster distrust towards the government and institutions.
” We have such a big and diverse society – to create that diversity as a division, or to divide even when there is no diversity but to make them think that we are diverse and hence we are aloof – giving such narration – to agitate people, to create an environment when the society loses faith and start disrespecting government, law and order, administration – it helps in establishing supremacy over the country by remaining abroad.,” said Bhagwat.
He added that divisive forces seek to weaken the country by manipulating political friction. ” They run these things through alternate politics, taking sides of one without being there on the ground – when political parties keep their interest above society and the unity of the country,” he noted.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is the ideological parent of the BJP, the leading party in the ruling NDA coalition under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Responding to Bhagwat’s remarks, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge accused the RSS of promoting disunity. “…You (Bhagwat) are the one who supports the party which wants disunity in the country. It starts with changing the Constitution, ending the reservation and then speaking different things about Hindu-Muslims…,” Kharge stated.
