The current death toll in the hooch tragedy has risen to 63 on Thursday morning, the District Collectorate states. Four more people who had consumed the spurious liquor and were undergoing treatment has reported dead on Wednesday.
The district administration has said that 88 patients has been discharged while 73 are still undergoing treatment at four government hospitals.

The patients who are critical are admitted at JIPMER and Kallakurichi Government Medical College hospital.
The JIPMER medical superintendent has said that the seven critical patients are on respiratory support.
The total number of people affected by the consumption of illicit liquor has now increased to 229.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, Kishor Makhwana, visited Karunapuram and met those admitted to the Kallakurichi Government Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports on the Kallakurichi Hooch tragedy.
On Tuesday, Governor R N Ravi too expressed his dissatisfaction with the “denial mode” in Tamil Nadu over the rampant issue of drug abuse and illicit liquor.
Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government has sought 10 days from the Madras High Court to file a detailed report on the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy. The high court has granted time till July 3 for the report to be filed. In the last hearing, the court has asked to file a detailed report suggesting the preventive measures taken to avoid such tragedies.
The families of the deceased have come up claiming that the sale of the illicit liquor happened in the prime areas of the town with the knowledge of the local police who operate under the direction of local political leaders belonging to the DMK.
