Delhi Metro Services On Independence Day: Details

In preparation for the Independence Day celebrations on Thursday, 15th August 2024, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced special operational hours to facilitate public access to the ceremony. Metro services will begin early, at 4:00 AM, on all lines from every terminal station. To accommodate the early attendees, trains will operate at a 15-minute frequency until 6:00 AM. Following this, the regular timetable will be reinstated for the remainder of the day.

DMRC has also made special arrangements for individuals attending the ceremony with a bonafide Invitation Card issued by the Ministry of Defence. These passengers, upon presenting a valid government-issued photo identity card, will be allowed to travel on the Delhi Metro for free. This provision is exclusive to entry and exit at Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, and Chandni Chowk Metro stations, which are the closest to the venue. The same invitation cards will also be valid for return journeys from these three stations only.

To ensure smooth travel, regular announcements will be made inside trains to keep passengers informed about these special arrangements. The Ministry of Defence will cover the travel costs associated with this provision, reimbursing DMRC for the expenses incurred.
