Kite flying, is a popular tradition in Delhi -NCR that has a significant risk to Metro services and human life, especially around Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has identified a high likelihood of kite strings getting entangled in the 25,000-volt ‘Over Head Equipment’ (OHE)  wires or being stuck in the pantograph of a moving train, leading to disruptions, damage and even fatalities.

DMRC warns people to mitigate such risks as they have put in place a viable mechanism to check and prevent any kind of difficulties. DMRC has deployed a dedicated team near kite-prone stations to swiftly remove kite strings as and when spotted. Train operators and station staff have been given instructions and are also advised to be more cautious in spotting kite strings during these days.

Despite these measures, DMRC appeals to the general public to refrain from flying kites in nearby places and or in the metro line vicinity as it is indispensable to stay away from flying kites from the elevated area padding through residential sides for their own safety.
