All MLAs Including CM Gets Free iPhone 16 Pro And iPads In Delhi; Netizens Troll "Wasting Money"
New Delhi: All Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in Delhi have received a free brand-new iPhone 16 Pro for official use, sparking debate on social media about the development. The device distribution occurred at the start of the monsoon session, with officials citing it as part of a broader digital initiative.
All 20 MLAs, including chief minister Rekha Gupta and opposition MPs, received the Apple flagship phone this week. The initiative is part of the government’s move to implement paperless governance through the National e-Vidhan Application. It aims to digitise proceedings, streamline access to documents, and enhance efficiency.

Part of the rollout of the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA), launched under the Centre’s “One Nation, One Application” scheme, the Delhi assembly is transitioning towards tech-based legislation, reducing paper usage and streamlining operations.
The reasons for providing MLAs with the premium phone are said to have been using the NeVA platform, which is a setup of digital tools such as smart delegate units, multilingual support, microphones with voting panels, RFID/NFC access, and real-time document access. These features can be easily accessed via distributed iPads. The MLAs have also received training to use the NeVA platform before distributing iPhone.

As part of the changes in the assembly, the house has also been equipped with HD cameras and a secure network, claiming to enhance transparency and efficiency during proceedings. The assembly is also powered by solar energy.
Notably, the development has sparked debate online, with users on social media both supporting and opposing the move. One user expressed his outrage saying he pay hefty taxes so that they (MLA)s can get free iPhone 16 pro. Another user, SAI VARMA noted that the MLAs already have the iPhones. “Why are They wasting money Something is really wrong in Delhi,” he wrote on X.
