Prevent Illegal Bangladeshi Migrants' Enrollment In Schools: Delhi Government

The Delhi Government’s Directorate of Education (DoE) has issued a directive to enforce stricter admission protocols in government, government-aided, and private unaided schools to prevent the enrolment of illegal Bangladeshi migrants. The order mandates rigorous verification of documents for migrant children seeking admission and directs school authorities to refer any doubts to the local police and revenue authorities.

The directive also requires District and Zonal Education Officers to submit weekly reports of suspected cases to the DoE headquarters. The initiative is part of a broader effort by the government to enhance transparency and ensure legitimate admissions in schools across the capital, as per a DoE statement.

This follows an intensified verification drive by the Delhi Police, which has identified 175 suspected illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the city’s outer districts. A senior police official stated that door-to-door checks and document scrutiny have led to over 1,500 suspected cases being flagged citywide. The police are working with local authorities and law enforcement agencies to authenticate the documents, including voter IDs and Aadhaar cards.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has directed its departments to identify and prevent illegal migrants from obtaining birth certificates and to undertake verification drives in municipal schools. Reports on these efforts are to be submitted weekly.
