As the national capital chokes with the Air Quality Index (AQI) hitting 526 on Wednesday, reaching the ‘hazardous level’ zone, Delhi environment minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Gopal Rai announced that 50 percent of the state government’s employees will move to work from home.
Previously, the timings of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) offices were fixed from 8:30 am to 5 pm. The Delhi government offices were open from 10 am to 6:30 pm.

“To reduce pollution, Delhi government decided to work from home in government offices 50% employees will work from home For its implementation, a meeting will be held with the officials at 1 pm today in the Secretariat,” tweeted Rai on X.

Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 591 while Ashok Vihar Phases 3 and 4 recorded 634.
The Supreme Court on November 18 directed the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) and the Delhi government that restrictions under Stage 4 of GRAP must not be relaxed without the court’s permission even if the Air Quality Index (AQI) drops below 300.

Amidst the toxic gas chamber like situation in the national capital, Delhi University shifted to online classes till November 23; Jawaharlal Nehru University till November 22. Trains and flights to the national capital are either delayed or cancelled as visibility plunged due to the toxic smog.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi said that all physical classes till Class 12 have been suspended and all studies are being shifted online.
