Considering the low air quality in the capital and following the Delhi government’s directive, universities in Delhi including Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), and Delhi University have decided to shift to an online mode of classes. The physical classes in JMI, JNU, and DU will resume on November 25, while this week the online classes will be held.

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) issued a notification regarding the ‘alarmingly high’ Air Quality Index and informed students about the mode of classes till November 23, 2024. The notice said, “In the larger interest of students of the University, it has been decided that the classes shall be conducted in online mode till Saturday the 23rd of November 2024 and regular in-person classes would resume on Monday, November 25, 2024”. The university further reassured students that the exams and interview dates would remain unchanged.
Also, JNU had decided to continue online classes until November 22, 2024, concerning the ongoing air quality index. The notification issued by Registrar Prof. Ravikesh stated, “Given the severe air pollution and hazardous Air Quality Index (AQI) levels in Delhi and NCR, to safeguard the health and well-being of students, it has been decided by the university to hold classes in Online Mode till 22nd November 2024”.

As per the official notification released by the Delhi University, “The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi & NCR has deteriorated to an alarmingly high index. In the larger interest of students of the Colleges and the Departments of the University of Delhi, it has been decided that the classes shall be conducted in Online Mode till Saturday, November 23, 2024”.
