“Even Hoping For Justice A Crime”: Rahul Gandhi on Farrukhabad Father’s Complaints

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has condemned the handling of a tragic incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad district, where two Dalit girls were found hanging from a tree. Gandhi expressed outrage at the government’s response to the case, calling it emblematic of the ruling BJP’s approach to justice.

“In the BJP government, even ‘hoping for justice’ is a crime!” Gandhi stated. He criticised the authorities, saying, “What can one expect from those whose priority is not justice but hiding the crime, even in the most serious incidents against the weak and the deprived?”

The bodies of the two girls, aged 15 and 18, were discovered in a village in Farrukhabad on Tuesday morning. The police have suggested suicide as the likely cause, citing a lack of immediate evidence of foul play. However, the families of the girls have dismissed this theory and demanded a thorough investigation.

“They are saying that these girls died by suicide and hung themselves, but what about the wounds on their bodies? We are not demanding anything, we just want to know the truth,” said the father of one of the deceased girls, who is a poor farmer. He also claimed that the police had prevented the family from viewing the body until the morning after the discovery and were pressuring them to cremate the bodies quickly.

The police, led by Superintendent Alok Priyadarshi, stated that no suicide note had been found and that the full circumstances would be revealed after the postmortem results. Investigations have included the discovery of a mobile phone and a SIM card at the scene.

Gandhi has sharply criticised the police’s conduct, stating, “The incident that happened in Farrukhabad is very unfortunate, such an attitude of the administration towards the victim’s family cannot be tolerated at any cost.” He further questioned, “After all, how long can we tolerate all this? This is a big question before us as a society! Security is the right of every daughter of India, and justice is the right of every suffering family.”
