Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh: A official statement from Prof Manindra Agrawal, Director, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, said on the allegation of sexual exploitation of an IIT Kanpur student by a police officer that the institute is committed to provide all the necessary support to the student at this difficult time.
A girl student of IIT Kanpur has accused a police officer in Kanpur city of sexual exploitation and filed a complaint.
“The institute is committed to provide all the necessary support to the student at this difficult time. We are also thankful to the city police for their quick action on the complaint. We are cooperating with them in the investigation. We request everyone to respect the privacy of the student,” the statement said.
As per reports, a PhD scholar at IIT Kanpur has accused an assistant commissioner of police (ACP), also a PhD candidate in criminology at the institute, of sexual exploitation under false promises of marriage. The victim, researching cybercrime—a shared academic interest—alleged that Mohsin Khan, the accused officer, concealed his marital status and promised to marry her. Their relationship began during academic interactions but took a turn when the victim discovered Khan was already married with a child.
Khan, posted in the Collectorgunj police circle, allegedly assured the victim he would divorce his wife but later reneged on the promise. In response, the victim filed a complaint. Following these allegations, Khan was removed from his post in Kanpur and reassigned to police headquarters in Lucknow to prevent interference in the investigation, according to DCP South Ankita Sharma.
A special investigation team (SIT) led by Additional DCP Archana Singh has been formed to handle the case. An FIR has been registered under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, relating to sexual exploitation. Khan, a key figure in Kanpur’s cybercrime investigations, continues to be under investigation while pursuing his academic and professional responsibilities.
