Vande Bharat Sleeper trains and Vande Metro to be rolled out soon.
Indian Railway is set to launch the first version of Vande Bharat sleeper trains soon. The details were revealed by BG Mallya, the General Manager of Integral Coach Factory (ICF) on Saturday.
“We”ll be launching the sleeper version of the Vande Bharat within this financial year”, said Mr Mallya to media.
The first train is under production monitored by ICF in Chennai, and is expected to rolled out in March 2024. The train will allow passengers to travel long distances overnight.
“There is a testing involved which takes time. But the train would be ready for launch by March”, he added.
The Vande Bharat Express is a short-distance train service operated by Indian Railways. Similar to Shatabdi Express, these are day train services that connect major Indian cities which are in a distance of less than a day”s time.
According to Mr Mallya, the new sleeper version is designed of 16 coaches including 11 three-tier coaches, 4 AC two-tier and 1 first AC.
The train will be “cost effective”, and as informed “no other colour scheme has been conceived so far”.
ICF also informed that Vande metro train will also be ready by end of 2023. They will be rolled out in January or February of 2024.
“We”ll also be launching the Vande Metro in this financial year. And we”ll be launching this train for non-air conditioned passengers, which is called a non-AC push-pull train”, said Mr Mallya.
The Vande Bharat metro will be for short-distance travel. It “will have 22 coaches and a locomotive. And that launch is going to happen before 31st October”, he added.

The first Vande Bharat Express was flagged off on February 15, 2019, by the Prime Minister, running between New Delhi and Varanasi.
The trains are manufactured at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. They are named “Vande Bharat Express” to emphasize its made-in-India status.
These semi-high-speed train, offers its services in all rail-electrified states across the country and it has 50 operational services now.
