After being elected for the first time to the Lok Sabha, Samajwadi Party MP Iqra Munawwar Hasan Choudhary’s maiden speech in the parliament has drawn the attention of many. Among a number of issues, the young Khairana MP emphasized the importance of a direct train from Kairana to Vaishnav Devi and Prayagraj, a long pending demand, especially given the significance of the Hindu pilgrimage site.
The 29-year-old MP’s first demand has been celebrated by many on social media, noting that a Muslim MP was “asking the government to run a train for the Hindu Pilgrimage site Vaishno Devi from her constituency.”

The railway project has been pending for a long time before the Ministry. The SP MP underlined that though the Panipat-Meerut-Kairana railway line survey has been conducted multiple times, the work on this line has not commenced yet, adding that the line is essential in connecting Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, benefiting the region.
“People from Kairana have been demanding new trains to be made operational on Shamli-Prayagraj route and Shamli-Vaishno Devi route for a long time,” the MP said, emphasising that the connectivity to both these locations is crucial with “Prayagraj housing the high court and Vaishno Devi holding a religious importance.”

Her campaign videos, uploaded on her social handles, also drew thousands of views, pouring applause for the granddaughter of Akhtar Hasan who had represented the constituency earlier.
Irqa, who completed her post-graduation from London, received a warm welcome in her constituency for her Parliamentary debut. Her elder brother Nahid Hasan is also a three-time MLA.
