Karnataka: 5, Including 4 Members Of Family, Drown In Cauvery River At Muthathi
Muthathi, Karnataka: Five people, including four members of the same family, drowned in the Cauvery River at the popular tourist spot of Muthathi in Mandya district on Tuesday evening.
The tragic incident happened during the victims’ temple visit. All the victims are natives of Byadarahalli, a place located on the western side of Bengaluru.
Video showed moments before the tragedy capturing the leisure activities of the family in the river. Police said that the after completing their visit to the Kabbalamma Temple earlier in the day and the Muthathiraya Temple, the group went to the nearby Cauvery River, where the tragedy occurred in the evening.
The incident happened when Vijayamma accidentally slipped into a deeper section of the river and began to drown. The other victims entered the water one after another in a desperate rescue attempt, only to swept away by the strong current of the river.

Talking about the incident, senior police officer Shobha Rani said that four women from the family entered the river to take photographs, believing the water was shallow. Despite warnings from Home Guards stationed in the area, they proceeded into the river.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel later recovered all five bodies from the river and shifted them to Mandya MIMS Hospital for post-mortem examination.
